Dead women writing

The world faces many grave issues, political, economic and social.  Reporters and columnists cover them, often swaying public opinion to the point where governments and organizations ignore it at their peril.

Now it appears columnists are actually writing from the grave.  Among the photographs of the opinion columnists in the Creators Syndicate stable are those of Benazir Bhutto and Molly Ivins.  They are both dead, Bhutto for nearly eight months and Ivins since January 2007.

Have they both been producing columns from beyond the grave?  It gives a whole new meaning to the term “ghost writer.”

In the case of Ivins, how I wish she were; each generation throws up only a handful of writers of her caliber.  I would have loved to read her take on the recent races for the Democrat and Republican nominations, as well as the forthcoming presidential election campaign.

Maybe I should invest in an Ouija board and try to contact dear Molly.  Maybe Creators Syndicate already has and that is why these two dead women are still listed as columnists.

At least Bhutto and Ivins would have a good excuse if recent columns were lifeless and hopelessly out of touch.  I wonder what Brian Till’s is?
