A Missouri high school baseball player has died after being struck by a wild pitch.
Doctors at St John’s Hospital declared 16-year-old Patrick Clegg brain dead last night. He was taken off a respirator today and his organs were removed for donation, in accordance with his wishes, said a hospital statement.
The Waynesville High School junior was batting in a game at Lebanon on Tuesday when he turned his back to avoid being hit by a pitch. The baseball hit him on the back of his head just below his helmet and he collapsed.
The school’s athletic director Josh Scott said school employees were restrained from commenting.
