Excess of selenium in supplement blamed for deaths of 21 polo horses

An excess of selenium in a mineral and vitamin supplement was today blamed for the deaths of 21 horses at the U.S. Open Polo Championship.
Florida’s state veterinarian, Dr Thomas J. Holt, said toxicology tests on the dead horses showed significantly increased selenium levels.

Thunderstorms bring 10 inches of rain and floods to parts of Texas

Thunderstorms caused 10 inches of rain in parts of western Harris County overnight, flooding homes and roads. A flood watch is in effect until at least midnight, the National Weather Service said.

Man charged with murder of Jermain Defoe’s brother

A man was charged todaywith murdering the half-brother of Tottenham Hotspur and England star Jermain Defoe.
Christopher Farley, 33, of Leytonstone, east London, will appear tomorrow at Redbridge Magistrates’ Court.
Farley is accused of inflicting fatal injuries on Jade Defoe, 26, in a street attack on 20 April.

Rescuers find missing teenage hiker safe and well
