Boy’s body found buried in sandpit at playground

By Calvin Palmer

A young boy’s body was found buried in the sand of a public playground in New Mexico yesterday afternoon.

A woman spotted part of a child’s shoe sticking out of the sand at Alvarado Park, in Albuquerque, and called the police, Albuquerque Police Chief Ray Schultz said.

The boy was between three and five years old. Forensic experts said he could not have been dead longer than 48 hours.

Schultz would not comment on whether the boy had wounds to his body.

Police had received no reports of missing children in the 24 hours leading up to the discovery of the body.

Schultz said the boy may be from the neighborhood surrounding the park.

“This is one of those cases where I think every minute counts,” Schultz said.

The boy was wearing a red shirt with the image of a four-wheel drive truck on the front, black nylon pants with red stripes and black shoes.
