Arugment over college football game ends in accidental fatal shooting

By Calvin Palmer

An argument between two U.S. Marines over the Texas-Nebraska college football game ended up with one them being accidentally shot to death.

Police in North Carolina said Johnathan Clinton Rodriguez, 21, was shot early Sunday after banter escalated into a scuffle at a home in Havelock.

Lionel Hoya, 23, had a gun that went off during the struggle and has been charged with involuntary manslaughter. He has been transferred to military authorities.

Texas beat Nebraska 13-12 on a last-second field goal to win the Big 12 championship on Saturday.

This story encapsulates the great Atlantic divide: over here the matter would be settled by a simple naked head butt followed by acres of titilating press coverage driven by agent-generated leaks.

No one needs to die. This is why we Brits are much more civilised than the Yankees.
