Men prefer women in black lingerie

By Calvin Palmer

With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, a new survey has some bad news for women when it comes to the color red and their choice of lingerie.

A survey of British males, by laundry products company Dr Beckmann, reveals that men prefer to see their women in black underwear.

The finding rocks the belief held by two-thirds of women who think their men like to see them in red lingerie.

Red has often been associated with sexy underwear. In the past, countless women have received red bras and panties as Christmas and Valentine’s Day gifts from the man in their life but apparently not anymore.

Red lingerie is considered a turn off by British men, according to the survey.

More than 50 percent of the 1,016 men interviewed placed red at the top of their least favorite list. Other colors that fail to gain male approval are pink, 18 percent of the sample, and flesh tones, 11 percent.

But more than 60 percent of the 1,001 women interviewed regarded red lingerie as a way of impressing their men folk.

Sorry ladies but you have got it hopelessly wrong. Men prefer black lingerie.

In the survey, 47 percent chose black as their favorite color, with 34 percent opting for traditional white.

Dr Beckmann spokesman Steven Simpson said: “Traditionally men have bought red underwear for their girlfriend, wife or lover, in the belief it’s the most romantic and attractive of lingerie.

“However, according to our research, the tastes of modern men have changed so ladies it’s now out with the red and in with the more demure black and white if you want to impress your partner.”

High-class lingerie company La Perla seems to be in tune with British male preferences. Its UK Web site features bras in black, white and blue. But La Perla’s US Web site features red and black bras.

French firm Aubade is clearly out of touch with British tastes and still features bras in shades of red and flesh tone.

As luck would have it a Victoria’s Secret catalog arrived in the mail today for my wife. The pages of bras and panties feature a rainbow of colors, although none of the featured models is wearing red. However, over on the Victoria’s Secret Web site, red and pink still figure prominently among the “most loved” bras.

So it would appear that in the ever-changing world of fashion, red maybe out but it is far from dead as far as lingerie in the United States is concerned. They will catch up with British tastes, eventually.

This must of been a difficult and painful article for you to research Calvin.

Bravo for sticking to your journalistic principals and getting to the (ahem) bottom of the matter.

  2. Calvin, you did serios job, but I think all depends of the mood of the man. It is like day and night, Summer and Winter. Maybe I’m wrong, this is just my opinion, based on my experience.
    Thanks for your work.
