At least 10 people died today when an overhead power cable fell on their vehicle while they travelling in the Indian state of Bihar.
The victims were among 35 Hindus returning from a cremation when the high-voltage cable snapped and hit the vehicle, said Vaishali district administrator Minhas Alam.
“Some 35 people were on board the truck when the accident occurred near Satpura village and 10 of them died on the spot,” Alam said.
The other mourners suffered burns and were taken to hospital.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has ordered an investigation into the accident and offered compensation to relatives of those killed.
