A woman was convicted today in Rochester, New York, on 103 counts of illegally removing bone and tissue from corpses in 2005.
Kirssy Medos, 31, formerly known as Kirssy Knapp, managed the Brighton office of the now defunct Biomedical Tissue Services.
The New Jersey company harvested bone and tissue from bodies being prepared for cremation. The body parts were sold to tissue processors for use in medical procedures.
Medos and six others were charged in Monroe County with illegally taking tissue from 36 bodies at three funeral homes.
She was found guilty of body stealing, opening graves, unlawful dissection of a human body, second-degree forgery and first-degree falsifying business records.
Medos is due to be sentenced next month and faces up to 20 years in prison.
